Take The Plunge Into Green By Getting To Grips With What You Eat

The environment isn’t in a good state. You only have to take a look at the news to realize that. Our continued use of unsustainable resources is catching up with us fast. Not to mention the damage climate change is having on our planet. For the most part, many of us choose not to heed these warnings. It’s no wonder. Why would we want to admit something that’s so scary? The trouble is, the problems won’t go away because you don’t acknowledge them. The good news is that making changes is easier than you think. Even better, you can make positive changes to your health at the same time! We’re going to take a look at the way you can save the planet by making changes to what you eat and drink.

GROW YOUR OWN FOOD

The best thing you can do for the environment with food is to grow your own. The way big businesses produce food is increasingly problematic. The pesticides used to ensure fast growth can do enormous damage to the environment and your body. If you have the space to grow, you should! There isn’t as much work involved as you might think. Plus, you’ll be able to rest easy knowing you’re putting only the best into your body. Water is another resource we don’t have enough of, so consider how you water the fruit and veg you grow. Try to spread the watering throughout the day, so you’re not using a hose for extended periods!

SHOP LOCALLY

If you don’t have the option to grow your own, shopping locally is the next best option. This is one of the many easy ways to save the planet, because you don’t have to put much effort in! All you have to do is find a good shop, and pay a little extra. Most local shops will provide you with organic food that you know has grown in the best way. The options for organic food are endless. You can even get organic alcohol if you want it! Take some time to see what organic options are open to you.

AVOID BOTTLED WATER

The production of bottled water does terrible things for the environment. It drains natural resources of the towns it’s taken from and can cause significant problems for wildlife and nature. There’s no reason to buy bottled water when you have a tap right at home! If you want to take water on the go, you can do that too. All you need to do is get a reusable bottle and keep it filled!

EAT LESS MEAT

We’re not saying you need to give up eating meat. Just eating less of it will make a huge difference. Farming is a significant drain on the environment in many ways. The co2 emissions are enormous, and the resources that go into feeding the animals are extreme. If you do eat meat, try again to buy locally. Factory farms are the most problematic because of the sheer size of them!
