After its first world tour without a drop of fuel during 2012 and a summer campaign in the Mediterranean seas, Türanor PlanetSolar is preparing for its 2013 new projects. The ship has shown that it is possible to sail around the world without a drop of fuel. Now it wants to convince the public of the commercial viability of solar technology.
During summer 2012, Türanor PlanetSolar sailed all over the Mediterranean Sea as a mobile ambassador of Solar Energy with a new crew: Eric Dumont the French Captain and Thomas David his second, who had the chance to meet a lot of people (media representatives, students …). The promotion campaign ended in Monaco (France). Türanor PlanetSolar is now in dry dock at La Ciotat Shipyard for the 2013 adventures’ preparation. Before the beginning of the 2013 adventures, the catamaran will go through its annual maintenance: the dry dock team verifies all essential components, enables renewal of the boat’s class certification and optimizes her performance. The catamaran is preparing for the new expedition/project which will be a Scientific Research Expedition along the Gulf Stream.
The expedition will start, between Lisbon and Tenerife, with a few days of testing the measuring devices. Once all equipment is tested and ready for use, the catamaran will begin its journey focusing on two principal objectives. PlanetSolar will try during the 2013 Expedition to beat its own speed record of 26 days to Cross the Atlantic than it will sail from Florida all along the Gulf Stream. During the second part, the boat and its crew will focus on collecting data measurement using laser technology in an attempt to have a better understanding of the mechanism that regulate climate.
The project just received the Global +5 Innovation prize for the PLANETSOLAR DEEPWATER EXPEDITION. The results will be shared with all the scientific community during stop-overs in the cities: Miami, Reykjavik, Oslo, London and Paris. Don’t miss the event in your city!

Gulf Stream: The Gulf Stream, together with its northern extension towards Europe, the North Atlantic Drift, is a powerful, warm, and swift Atlantic Ocean current that originates at the tip of Florida, and follows the eastern coastlines of the United States and Newfoundland before crossing the Atlantic Ocean. The Gulf Stream influences the climate of the east coast of North America from Florida to Newfoundland, and the west coast of Europe. (Wikipedia)
